A website chatbot and an AI connection to your data serve different jobs

How a chatbot for website visitors differs from asking ChatGPT or Claude about your own traffic, search and sales, and how to tell which one your business needs.

ComparisonWritten by Panagiotis SaridisPublished Updated 6 min read

The short answer

A website chatbot sits on your site and talks to visitors, using the content you give it. An AI connection to your data works inside ChatGPT or Claude for your own team, and reads sources such as Google Analytics, Search Console or your store. Mitos is the second kind. A business can use both, with separate data and permissions.

If you manage several client businesses, read how agencies use one organization per client.

Key points

  • Ask who types the question: a visitor or someone on your team.
  • A chatbot needs product and support content. Questions about your business need analytics, search and store data.
  • Keep orders and customer details away from anything visitors can talk to.

When a chatbot fits

A chatbot helps when visitors ask the same things again and again: delivery times, sizes, opening hours, how to return a product. It works from the content you give it and should hand the conversation to a person when it cannot answer.

It has no need to see your traffic reports or order history.

When you need a connection to your data

Your team asks different questions. How many visitors came this month? Which search queries bring clicks? What sold best? The answers live in Google Analytics, Search Console and your store admin.

Mitos lets ChatGPT or Claude read those sources, read-only by default. It has no AI model of its own, and your visitors never see it. The AI assistant writes the answer from the data Mitos fetches.

Keep the two apart

If you run both, give each one its own data. A chatbot that visitors talk to should never reach orders or customer records. A connection to your analytics should be used only by people on your team.

  • In Mitos, one AI connector reaches one organization.
  • Team roles are Owner, Admin, Analyst and Member.
  • You revoke an AI assistant's access from the Mitos app.

For agencies

Agencies that manage several client businesses create one organization per client. Each organization is isolated and never reachable from another organization's connector.

Questions people ask

Do my visitors see Mitos?

No. Your team uses it inside ChatGPT or Claude. There is no chat window on your site.

Can I use a chatbot and Mitos together?

Yes. They do different jobs. Give each one its own data and permissions.

Does a website chatbot know my sales?

Only if someone connects it to your store. Most chatbots work from pages and FAQs, and visitors should not be able to reach order data through them.
