The short answer
On their own, ChatGPT and Claude help you draft and rewrite text, such as product descriptions, and work with a file you upload, such as a spreadsheet. They cannot see your live orders, stock, Google Analytics or Search Console. A connection such as Mitos, read-only by default, lets them read that data when you ask: today for WooCommerce and Magento stores, with Shopify coming next.
To see what each source adds for a store, read how ChatGPT and Claude answer questions about an online store.
Key points
- ChatGPT and Claude write first drafts, such as product descriptions, and work with files you upload, such as a spreadsheet of orders.
- An uploaded file shows the data as it was when you exported it, and it does not update when a new order comes in.
- Without a connection, neither app can see your orders, stock, Google Analytics or Search Console.
- Mitos connects WooCommerce, Magento, Google Analytics and Search Console, read-only by default. Shopify is coming next.
- AI answers can be wrong or incomplete, so check any figure you act on in your store's admin.
What each way of working can see
| Way of working | What the AI assistant sees | Useful for |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT or Claude with no connection | What you type into the chat | Drafts of product descriptions, emails and replies to customers |
| Web search in ChatGPT | Public web pages, with links to sources | What your store's public pages say |
| Uploading a file | One export, as it was when you made it | A one-off look at a spreadsheet or report |
| A connection to your store, read-only by default | Current orders, products, stock, traffic and searches from the sources you approve | Repeated questions about how the store is doing |
What ChatGPT and Claude help with on their own
Both apps write and rewrite text from the details you give them. Anthropic lists drafting, summarizing and translating among the things Claude can do, and OpenAI gives rewriting a document in a particular style as an example. Read every draft before you publish it, because the app can get details wrong.
For an online store, that means work such as:
- A first draft of a product description from the product's features and materials
- A shorter or clearer version of your shipping or returns page
- A translation of a product page into another language, which you then check
- A summary of a long supplier document you upload
Working with a file you upload
Both apps accept spreadsheets. OpenAI's help center says file uploads are available on free and paid ChatGPT plans, and one of its examples is uploading a CSV and asking for help to understand and visualize the data. Claude accepts CSV and XLSX files among others, and XLSX files need code execution and file creation turned on.
A file is a snapshot. It shows your orders as they were when you exported them, so each question about a later week needs a new export.
What they cannot see without a connection
ChatGPT can search the public web, but your store's admin is not public. Without an authorized connection, neither app can see:
- Orders as they come in
- Your products' stock levels
- Traffic, channels and conversions from Google Analytics
- Search queries, clicks and impressions from Search Console
What connecting your store's data adds
Mitos is a connection between your store's data and ChatGPT or Claude, read-only by default. You connect your sources in the Mitos app, add one address to ChatGPT or Claude, and approve one organization. From then on the AI assistant reads that data when you ask, and it changes nothing unless an owner or admin allows it. You can connect these today:
- WooCommerce: products, orders, stock, categories and a sales summary, connected in one click through the Mitos plugin. Orders never include the customer's name, address, email or phone.
- Magento or Adobe Commerce: orders, products, inventory, customers and CMS pages, with an integration access token. This is the one source where the AI assistant can read customer names, emails and order history, and the app warns you before you connect.
- Google Analytics and Search Console: traffic, channels, landing pages, conversions, search queries, clicks and impressions.
- Shopify: coming next. Mitos cannot read Shopify orders or products yet, but a Shopify store can already connect Google Analytics and Search Console.
What to expect from a connection
A connection lets you ask about your own numbers in plain words instead of opening several reports. The AI assistant writes the answer and can be wrong or incomplete, so confirm sales totals in WooCommerce or Magento before you decide anything.

Questions people ask
Can ChatGPT see my orders if I give it my store's web address?
No. ChatGPT can search public pages, and your orders are not public. Reading them needs an authorized connection.
Do I need to be technical to connect my store?
You connect it yourself in the Mitos app. WooCommerce connects in one click through the Mitos plugin, and Magento needs an integration access token. It takes a few minutes. If you get stuck, email [email protected].
My store runs on Shopify. Can I use this?
Not for Shopify orders and products yet: the Shopify connection is coming next. You can connect your store's Google Analytics and Search Console today.
Can the AI assistant change prices or orders?
Not unless you allow it. By default Mitos gives only read tools, and any allowed price or stock change waits for a person's approval, in the chat where your AI assistant supports it, otherwise in Mitos.
Which ChatGPT or Claude plan do I need?
You add Mitos as a custom connector (in ChatGPT, with developer mode turned on). The plans that can add it are listed below.

- ClaudeOn any plan. Free allows one custom connector, and on Team and Enterprise an owner adds it first.Anthropic's guide
